Travel and food contest goes local
Interested foodies knowledgeable of where to find delicious dishes are invited to enter the “Locallicious: Eat Local Meet Local” contest and design food trips to any of the 55 secondary provinces in Thailand.
Organised by the Tourism Authority of Thailand to promote food tourism in the provinces, the contest is open to teams of an unlimited number of food lovers, new generation chefs, college students, bloggers, travel enthusiasts, tour agencies or local experts, of any gender and age. They must know where to find local delicacies and be able to pass their food experience on to others.
All teams must design either a one-day trip or a two-day one-night trip. Their suggestions might be based on a quest for ingredients and learning with local chefs, consist of a treasure hunt for must-try dishes, focus on cooking tribal dishes with local chefs, or offer unique food experiences that are not to be found elsewhere.
Excursions must be practical and creative and include activities that allow both local and international tourists to learn about raw materials and food culture and enjoy sumptuous dishes along the routes.
Each team can submit only one trip. Forty trips will be selected and the corresponding teams will be given three minutes to present in front of a panel of judges.
Twenty successful teams will pass to the final round and receive cash prizes worth 370,000 baht in total. Those teams are then required to publicise and sell their trips to tourists. Only five teams with the most reservations will receive additional prize money equivalent to the sales of their trips.
The application deadline is Aug 9. Visit thelocallicious.com or call 089-777-3971 and 082-111-3223.
