NOCT unveils ‘beautiful’ Thai uniforms
The National Olympic Committee of Thailand unveiled the uniforms for its participants at next month’s Asian Games yesterday.
The uniforms, made by Grand Sport, feature shirts in red, blue and yellow.
“The uniforms are more beautiful than the uniforms of other countries,” said NOCT vice-president Charouck Arirachakaran.
“I am confident that our athletes will become successful at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia.”
The Asian Games will be held in Jakarta and Palembang from Aug 18-Sept 2 when 45 nations compete in 40 sports with 462 gold medals on offer.
Thailand, who aim to bring home 17 gold medals, will send about 1,000 athletes and officials to the Games.
The Thais won 12 gold, seven silver and 28 bronze medals in the previous Games in South Korea in 2014.
Meanwhile, team manager Nualphan Lamsam is confident that the Thai women’s football side will be successful at the Asian Games.
The team will leave today for Osaka where they will train and play warm-up games before the Asian Games.
“The training in Japan will help make us ready for the Asian Games,” said Nualphan, whose team won the AFF Women’s Championship in Palembang two weeks ago.
“After the training in Japan where we play two warm-up matches, we will be ready for the Asian Games.”
The Thai women will face tough assignments against former world champions Japan and Southeast Asian rivals Vietnam in the first round at the Asian Games.
In another development, a fresh draw for the men’s football tournament at the Asian Games will be held at the Asian Football Confederation headquarters in Kuala Lumpur at 2pm (Thai time) today.
The United Arab Emirates and Palestine were left out of the first draw on July 5, despite there being no discrepancies in the entries submitted by the two countries.
Their inclusion will raise the number of participating countries to 26 including Thailand.
Four groups will have four teams each while two groups will have five teams each.
