Hospital in underwear row
The father of a 19-year-old woman who died in suspicious circumstances in Ayutthaya yesterday has lodged a police complaint against a nurse and housekeeper at Karunvej Hospital for allegedly destroying his daughter’s underwear to help the killer escape justice.
Accompanied by lawyer Songkran Achariyasap, Subin Yawiratch, the father, filed a complaint against the two individuals yesterday with the Crime Suppression Division.
Both are accused of destroying evidence to help the wrongdoer, who is believed to be behind the supposedly accidental death of Nareekan “Ying” Yawiratch after she accepted a ride home at night from a lorry driver in Bang Pa-in on July 19.
An audio clip recording the nurse’s testimony with police was also submitted to investigators. In the clip, the nurse said she gave the young woman’s underwear to the housekeeper so it could be destroyed.
Mr Songkran said the statement contradicted the hospital’s CCTV footage, which showed the underwear could still be seen on July 29.
The hospital’s director told the media the surveillance camera was out of order, which was later found to be incorrect.
Mr Songkran said the result of a second autopsy on Nareekan’s body would be available within 20 days.
The deceased’s family has also filed a civil suit demanding the hospital pay compensation.
