Hosoda of past, present and future
Japanese film director and animator Mamoru Hosoda will be in Bangkok to talk about his new film at the Quartier CineArt, EmQuartier, on Wednesday at 6.30pm.
Presented by the Japan Foundation and M Pictures, this special talk will offer behind the scenes information on his latest animated film, Mirai Of The Future, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was shown at the Sydney Film Festival in June. It is due to be released in the US and the UK later this year.
The 100-minute family fantasy film revolves around a young boy struggling with losing his parents’ affection to his newborn sister. But in their magical backyard, he has a chance to travel back in time to encounter his mother and great-grandfather in their younger years. He also meets his little sister from the future, now fully grown up, and they begin a fantasy-filled adventure together.
As an introduction before the film release in Bangkok on Thursday, the 50-year-old director will share his journey of becoming a professional animator, what inspired him to make this movie and what messages he wishes to deliver to his fans. As one of the most well-known animation creators, he will also discuss core issues of creating an animated film and why most of his films are related to family issues.
Hosoda first attracted attention in the early 2000s with the first two films in the Digimon Adventure series and the sixth film in the One Piece series. His further films include The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Summer Wars and Wolf Children.
The 90-minute talk will be in Thai and Japanese. There is no admission fee but reservations should be made today by e-mailing acdstaff3@jfbkk.or.th.
