Photographer Tom Jacobi offers insights
Award-winning photographer Tom Jacobi will share his discovery of mystical, timeless places that were created by nature over millennia during the “RPST Master Series Artist Talk” at the Auditorium, 5th floor of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersection, on Thursday from 5pm to 6.30pm.
Organised by the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand and the Lucie Foundation, the talk is an opportunity to learn from the German photographer who travelled for more than four years through seven continents and created a focused view of the world in its basic materiality with his large format landscapes.
When photographed either at times or at places without colour, he discovered how those hidden places unfold their immortal power. Through the absence of colour, he shares how the planet seems to find peace, just like it might have done long before our existence.
After capturing his first photographic image when he was 15 years old, Jacobi worked as a photographer for 25 years before he became art director of the German magazine Stern. He was also the publisher of the book series Stern Photography and founder of the monthly photo magazine View.
He returned to his roots in 2014 and started to work on the photographic trilogy, Awakening, which consists of the series, Grey Matter(s) (2014–2015), Into The Light (2015–2017) and The Light Within (2018). With his trilogy, he has created an homage to nature and planet Earth, which led him to receive the coveted Photographer of the Year Award at the Moscow International Foto Awards.
Jacobi has also brought his “Awakening — Between Heaven And Earth, Between Light And Darkness” collection to display as part of the ongoing “Beyond The Air We Breathe: Addressing Causes And Effects of Climate Change” exhibition which will wrap up on Sept 2.
The fee is 500 baht (200 baht for RPST members and students). Visit rpst.or.th or facebook.com/RPSThailand.
