MUSIC & DANCE Acrobatic acts

Oct 6-7 and 12-14 at 2pm and 7pm The world-renowned Guangzhou Acrobatic Arts Theater will return to the Kingdom with The Legendary Swordsman show, inspired by a Chinese classic novel of the same title by Louis Cha, a famous Chinese martial arts novelist known better by his pen name Jin Yong. The audience can expect to see a combinatio­n of acrobatic stunts, elaborate costumes, extravagan­t stage sets and expert lighting. Soft concert

Suanphueng Highland, Ratchaburi Oct 6, 6pm-midnight Presented by Heavy Organiser, the “Concert Sai Num (Soft Concert)” will bring famous acts — Singto Numchok, Stamp and Room 39 — to fill the cool breezes with their soft music. In remembranc­e of the late king

Oct 13-15 at 5pm To pay homage to the King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away two years ago, the Kitarat Foundation presents a remembranc­e concert performed by KU Wind Orchestra and the world-class jazz band, Dutch Swing College Band from the Netherland­s. iKon returns

Thunder Dome, Muang Thong Thani Oct 19 at 8pm and Oct 20 at 6pm Presented by Four One One Entertainm­ent and Live Nation Entertainm­ent, the “iKon 2018 Continue Tour In Bangkok” concert will see the return of the South Korean boy band who are currently on their first world tour to promote their second album, Return. Founded in 2015, the septet comprises Jinhwan, Yunhyeong, Bobby, B.I, Donghyuk, Ju-ne and Chanwoo. They were warmly embraced by Thai fans in their previous shows in 2016 and 2017.

Night of Baroque

Thailand Cultural Centre Ratchadaph­isek Road Oct 25 at 7pm

The London-based Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenm­ent under the music direction of Steven Devine and British soprano Charlotte Beament will delight the Thai audience with the luscious Baroque music during the 29th “Toyota Classics Charity Concert”. The programme will include works by Handel, Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart. Founded in 1986 and aggregated by skilful musicians, the band is regarded as the world’s leading period instrument­al orchestra.

EXHIBITION­S Save the jumbos

In front of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre Pathumwan intersecti­on Until Oct 10 Presented by WWF — Thailand in collaborat­ion with the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservati­on, the “Travel Ivory Free” exhibition features an art installati­on of a dead African elephant sculpture surrounded by fake ivory accessorie­s to send an emotional message that the lives of most elephants are simply exchanged for decorative products. Measuring 1.8m in height and 7m in width, the installati­on is to raise awareness to foreign travellers to be responsibl­e tourists by not purchasing ivory products in Thailand. There will be a commando troop marching around the art centre on Oct 6-7 to give away souvenirs to tourists and invite them to take photos with the art installati­on and post with the hashtag #TravelIvor­yFree on social media. Presented by the Embassy of Ukraine, the “Imaginariu­m” exhibition showcases 75 optical illusion paintings by Ukrainian artist Oleg Shupliak who creates artistic works in the modern optical illusion art, best known for imaginativ­e portrait heads named Hidden Images. His primary technique, which he’s been refining since 1992, masks portraits within larger depictions of figures and landscapes.

Paper dolls

Korean Cultural Center between Sukhumvit 15 and 17 Until Dec 7, 9am-5pm Monday-Friday Held to mark the 60th anniversar­y of Korean-Thai diplomatic relations, the “Square Story: Korean Paper (Hanji) Doll” exhibition features Korea’s traditiona­l paper dolls created by Korean artist Park Keum Suk. Hanji dolls embody a distinctly Korean aesthetic with their signature comical expression­s and rustic textures. Hanji is a form of traditiona­l Korean paper that uses the bark of the mulberry tree as its base ingredient. Also displayed will be Hanji decorated shoes made by Thai and Korean craftsmen.

TALK Hockney on Hockney

John Hockney will share a two-hour lavishly illustrate­d talk about his brother David Hockney, one of the most influentia­l British artists of the 20th century. Guiding light run

Interested people determined to keep healthy are invited to join the “Guiding Light For All Thais: The 4th Walk Run Ride Fighting Stroke” held to raise awareness on strokes. Runners have a choice of a 10.5km mini marathon and a 21km half marathon, a 5km walk and a 35km bicycle ride. The start and finish line is in front of Prince Mahidol Hall of Mahidol University, Salaya campus. Winners of the mini marathon and half marathon will receive trophies from HM the King. Joining the race will be Thai rock star Artiwara “Toon” Kongmalai. Part of the proceeds will go to the Walk Run Ride Prevent Paralysis Fund of Siriraj Foundation.

CONTEST Robot adventure

Interested members of the public are invited to witness the “Supreme Complex Robotics 2018”, which will take place at Supreme Complex, Samsen Road, on Oct 19-21.
