PUTTING AN END TO PLASTIC BAGS
Twenty-two fresh markets and department stores in this northeastern province are taking part in a pilot project aimed at cutting down on the use of plastic bags and styrofoam containers, which started on Oct 1.
Free cloth bags are given out to vendors at the markets to provide food to their customers in. Customers are then expected to use the bags every time they visit the markets. The province intends to after this expand the project to cover all 26 districts of it.
Khon Kaen municipality and other organisations concerned are responsible for producing cloth bags and distributing them free of charge to the parties taking part in the project.
