Lee calms down to deny Renuka and ri­vals ti­tle

>> XIAMEN: Lee So­lar cap­tured her maiden China LPGA Tour ti­tle yes­ter­day, post­ing a fi­nal round 70 to win the Ori­ent Masters by two strokes in Fu­jian prov­ince.

Cling­ing to a one-shot lead go­ing into the fi­nal round at Ori­ent Xiamen Golf and Coun­try Club, the South Korean over­came a bo­gey-bo­gey start to fin­ish on seven-un­der 209.

Tai­wan’s Huang-ching was run­nerup af­ter a 69, while Thai­land’s Renuka Suk­suk­sont (72) and Korean Na HeeWon (70) were joint third on 212.

China’s Yin Ruon­ing emerged as the top am­a­teur. The 16-year-old closed with a 72 to fin­ish joint fifth on 213.

With play­ing part­ner Renuka mak­ing birdie at the first hole, Lee quickly fell out of the lead af­ter an­swer­ing with a bo­gey five for a two-shot swing. Lee then made a bo­gey at the se­cond hole to fall three shots back.

Af­ter mak­ing par at the third, Lee lifted her game mag­nif­i­cently that saw her reg­is­ter five birdies over the next seven holes to get to eight un­der. She then parred holes 11 to 17 be­fore mak­ing a bo­gey five at the last.

“I did feel ner­vous and that made me miss [par] the first two holes. Af­ter a quick ad­just­ment I was able to calm down and fo­cus on my game,” said Lee.
