Maho Rasop Festival kicks off for first time
Bangkok hosts its first ever international independent music festival, bringing together an exciting selection of artists from around the world to perform at Live Park Rama 9 on Saturday from noon onwards.
Organised by Have You Heard?, Seen Scene Space and Fungjai, the Maho Rasop International Music Festival is Thailand’s answer to such music and arts festivals as Laneway in Singapore and Clockenflap in Hong Kong. The packed bill will see performances from no fewer than 19 top local and international acts.
Among the major international names are three bands from the UK, most notably headliners The Vaccines, currently on tour to promote their acclaimed fourth album Combat Sports. They will be joined by dream-pop outfit Slowdive, playing Thailand for the first time, and London-based quartet Prep, who return to delight fans with their particular blend of electro funk. Classy synth-pop act Washed Out and psychedelic rockers Sunflower Bean, both from the US, will share their infectious grooves along with exciting Australian acts Miami Horror and Vacations. The festival also provides an opportunity for revellers to check out American rapper Oddisee perform with his band Good Company. Notable Asian acts are South Korean star Dean, Taiwanese math rock outfit Elephant Gym, Chinese instrumental post-rock combo Wang Wen, Japanese all-girl indie trio Lucie, Too and Rad Museum from Seoul-based underground hip-hop collective Club Eskimo.
At least six acts from Thailand have so far been confirmed on the bill: Solitude Is Bliss, Gym and Swim, Hariguem Zaboy, Temp, S.O.L.E. and Yanin.
The festival will include a whole host of other activities related to arts, food and culture.
