Totchtawan on board, Suphanburi dream big

- TOR CHITTINAND

Totchtawan Sripan has been appointed coach of Thai League 1 side Suphanburi, the club announced yesterday.

The former Thailand midfielder, who succeeds Phairoj Bovornwattanadilok, vowed to turn Suphanburi into a top club again.

“It’s a great honour that Suphanburi chairman Varawut Silpa-archa wanted me to coach the team,’’ said Totchtawan.

He said he accepted the job because he saw Varawut’s determination to run the club.

“Suphanburi have good management and many good players. So it was easy for me to make the decision to take the job,” said Totchtawan.

Once a strong team, Suphanburi have struggled over the past few years and narrowly avoided the drop this year.

“My aim is to try to make Suphanburi a top team like they were a few years ago. This will help woo back the fans to the stadium,” he said.

The 46-year-old became a household name when he steered SCG Muang Thong United to win the Thai League 1 and League Cup titles in his first season with the Kirins in 2016.

But he has since failed to repeat that performance and quit Muang Thong this year following a string of poor results.

He then joined Police Tero who wanted him to take them out of the relegation zone.

Under Totchtawan, Police Tero became worse prompting the coach to quit before the season ended.

Police Tero were relegated to Thai League 2 at the end of the season.
