Japanese chain NHI is reintroducing the Nikko brand with a 301-room hotel near Thong Lor skytrain station.

Japanese chain Nikko Hotels International (NHI) is reintroducing the Nikko brand in Thailand with a plan to open a hotel in Bangkok early next year.

The 301-room Hotel Nikko Bangkok at Thong Lor skytrain station is targeting Asia-Pacific guests from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, Japan and Thailand. Europe is a secondary focus.

General manager Jo Sato said the hotel is marketing to all segments, including corporate, leisure and Mice (meetings, incentives, conventions, exhibitions).

“We are also aiming to be a preferred choice in the Thong Lor area for Thais for weddings, catering, and our food and beverage outlets,” Mr Sato said.

Grand Tower Inn Group, founded in 1985 as an operator of serviced apartments, owns Hotel Nikko Bangkok. The group has traditionally served a mostly Japanese clientele, with about 90% of guests travelling for business and 10% for leisure.

NHI used to operate a hotel in Bangkok in the Ratchadaphisek area, but later pulled out for business reasons. The group is confident about the opening of the new hotel, thanks to a strong foundation of Japanese clients.

Mr Sato said the Nikko brand is recognised and widespread in Japan and elsewhere in Asia, as is its “omotenashi” approach to hospitality.

“We are confident that such a reputation will attract the very large Japanese community in Thailand, as well as Thais, along with Japanese, Asian and other international travellers who are visiting Bangkok,” he said.

Hotel Nikko Bangkok will offer the largest ballroom in the Thong Lor area, promising an attractive venue for Thai residents and others living in the vicinity who wish to stage events.

The hotel highlights the essence of Japanese culture with features like a Toto washlet in every room.

“We are starting to accept reservations for guests to experience our courteous Japanese omotenashi hospitality in Bangkok’s trendy Thong Lor neighbourhood,” Mr Sato said.

Special rates start from 5,200 baht (exclusive of tax and other charges) for a superior room, with breakfast for two included, for stays from February to June 30, 2019.

NHI is a luxury hotel group providing facilities and services in urban centres and popular resort destinations worldwide.

The Okura Prestige Bangkok is another property in the group.
