ARIANA GRANDE CALLS HER LIFE ‘PAINFUL AND YET BEAUTIFUL’ POST-PETE DAVIDSON SPLIT

- MAEVE MCDERMOTT

Ariana Grande is feeling thankful these days.

The singer took to Twitter over the weekend to thank her family, friends and followers for their support as she retweeted glowing reviews for her new single Thank U, Next.

“i love y’all so damn much. thank u so so much for everything,” she tweeted. “What an interesting, challenging, painful and yet beautiful and exciting chapter of life ..... when it rains it pours but I’m embracing all of it. I’m excited for whatever else the universe has in store for me. She’s growing [and] she’s grateful.”

Grande also shouted out three of the Thank U, Next co-writers — Victoria Monet, Tayla Parx and her longtime collaborator Tommy Brown — who “helped me turn the literal [sic] sourest of lemons into the sweetest pink [expletive]lemonade ever.”

Among the many admirers praising Thank U, Next on Twitter was Mark Hamill. The Star Wars icon unknowingly referenced her lyric in a tweet and then followed up with a note about Grande once he realised he’d shouted her out. Hamill called her “one of the most popular artists in the history of showbiz” in his tweet, with Grande responding by proclaiming that she’s “gonna tattoo this to my forehead”.

Grande dropped Thank U, Next on Nov 3, with the song’s opening lines mentioning ex-fiance Pete Davidson along with her other exes Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez and the late Mac Miller.

When one Twitter user commented on how Sean and Alvarez may have reacted to hearing their names in the song, Grande responded by explaining: “They heard it before it came out.”

Before she rebounded with Thank U, Next, the 25-year-old singer’s rocky summer included Miller’s unexpected death and her broken engagement to Davidson in October, just months after the comedian proposed to her in May.

Appearing on SNL after their split, Davidson called Grande a “wonderful, strong person and I wish her all the happiness in the world”.
