Dead dugong found on beach

-

TRANG: A dugong was found dead yesterday on Chao Mai beach on Mo Ko Libong island by marine engineers. It was the fifth dugong death this year.

Dugongs, commonly known as sea cows, are often found in shallow coastal waters in the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans.

The dugong carcass was later transported by truck to the Marine Research Development Centre in Phuket for an autopsy.

Based on a preliminary examination, the dugong had been dead for more than 12 hours.

No wounds were found and the death was suspected to be of natural causes.
