Man nabbed for rape of bedridden granny

A man who raped a bedridden 73-yearold woman on Nov 17 in Bangkok has been apprehended in Sai Yok district.

The arrest of Sombat Tonwong, 54, came after police were tipped off that he had fled the capital and gone to live at Wat Loom Soom in the district.

Tha Rua police are in charge of the investigation as it has jurisdiction over the area where the alleged rape took place. Pol Lt Col Adithep Phuwat and Pol Maj Thiti Srisuwan, Tha Rua police investigators, coordinated with Sai Yok police in Kanchanaburi province before they raided the temple and nabbed the suspect.

Mr Sombat allegedly confessed to police he had raped the elderly woman. He was brought to the local police station to be booked and questioned.

He was to be escorted back to Tha Rua police station yesterday evening to be held in custody there pending further action.
