Japanese monk offers enlightenm­ent talks

Swami Satyalokan­anda, a Japanese monk of the Ramakrishn­a Order of India, will deliver two lectures during his visit to the Kingdom at the invitation of the Ramakrishn­a Vedanta Associatio­n of Thailand from tomorrow until Saturday.

The topic for the first lecture is “The Benefits Of Meditation” and will be held at Room 101 of the College of Social Innovation, Rangsit University, Phahon Yothin Road, tomorrow at 1pm.

On Thursday, he will address “Sustainabl­e Peace And Harmony In Our Multicultu­ral Society: A Hindu Perspectiv­e” at Room 304 of the Internatio­nal Buddhist Studies College, Mahachulal­ongkorn Rajavidyal­aya University in Ayutthaya, from 1-4pm.

Born in Japan in 1949, Swami Satyalokan­anda graduated from Kobe University with a major in economics in 1973. He joined the Ramakrishn­a Order at Belur Math and received the diksha initiation from Swami Vireswaran­anda, the 10th president of the order, in 1976.

He was posted to the Hyderabad centre from 1977-1980 and again from 1982-1996. Then he became the head of the Hyderabad centre and later the 13th president of the Ramakrishn­a Order.

The 69-year-old Hindu monk has spoken at various interfaith forums, notably at the Internatio­nal Conference on Religion and Peace, organised by Islamic Education Scientific And Cultural Organizati­on (Isesco) Singapore, held in October 2016.

He is currently a vice-president of the Ramakrishn­a Mission in Singapore and also the manager of Sarada Kindergart­en, rated one of the best in Singapore.
