- Tan Hak Leh Chief Executive Officer AIA Thailand

Employee health is key to business success. It is a fact that investing in the health and wellbeing of employees can save businesses billions of dollars every year. In addition, proactive management of employees’ physical and mental health can produce a range of important business benefits, including a reduction in absenteeism, greater staff engagement, increased productivity and a reduction in staff turnover. Importantly, this will serve AIA’s ultimate goal of helping people live healthier, longer and better lives by helping bring about improved employee health and wellbeing across companies, industries and country. Thus, on the occasion of AIA Thailand’s 80th anniversary this year, we are proud to launch Thailand’s Healthiest Workplace by AIA Vitality, the first science-based workplace survey on the health and wellbeing of employees in Thailand, which in turn gives employers useful strategies in support of achieving healthy living goals and improving productivity in organisations. For the first-ever Thailand’s Healthiest Workplace by AIA Vitality, we are glad to see high participation, as this indicates that organisations in Thailand see value in improving their employees’ health and wellbeing. A total of 146 organisations participated and 7,539 employees in Thailand have been surveyed. The survey data found that Thailand has a high productivity loss, with an average of 73 days lost due to absence and presenteeism per employee every year, and losses of more than 6 million baht per organisation per year. The results also revealed some concerns in Thailand about poor nutrition, physical inactivity, lack of sleep, work-related stress and financial worries. However, it is heartening to see that employers in Thailand, in general, offer good wellbeing programmes and facilities, with more than half of employees participating in at least one intervention. We hope that the findings and recommendations from this inaugural Thailand’s Healthiest Workplace by AIA Vitality initiative will give employers useful insights towards improving or initiating their health promotion strategies and plans to create a healthier and more productive environment for their people. On behalf of AIA Thailand, I would like to thank all the companies and employees who took the time to participate in the first-ever Thailand’s Healthiest Workplace by AIA Vitality survey. Congratulations to the winners. You are the champions of workplace health. Please keep up your efforts. We will be looking forward to working together with organisations, industries and key stakeholders to create a more productive and engaging workplace that can help Thailand’s workforce live healthier, longer, better lives. Last ly, I would like to encourage employers to participate in 2019 Thailand’s Healthiest Workplace by AIA Vitality. Together, let’s create a healthy workplace and lead the Thai workforce to healthier, longer, better lives.
