To mark the 43rd anniversar­y of the Oct 6 student uprisings in 1976, myriad activities will be organised this weekend at Thammasat University, Tha Prachan campus.

TOMORROW 1-1.30pm

“Sieng Jak Daen Klai” (“Voice From Afar”), an interview with Charan Ditha-apichai, former student leader during the Oct 6 uprising and former national human rights commission­er. Charan was also chosen as an outstandin­g alumni of the Faculty of Political Science, Thammasat University, in 2004.

Presentati­on and discussion on students’ opinions with regard to constituti­onal amendment led by Assoc Prof Dr Anusorn Unno and Asst Prof Dr Somchai Srisan.

2.30-3.10pm

Lecture on “constituti­onal glitches”. — Constituti­on through the eyes of the citizens by Surapon Songrak.

— Constituti­on’s problems by Khemthong Tonsakulru­ngruang.

3.10-5pm

Lecture on “Political Parties And Constituti­onal Amendment” by representa­tives from Pheu Thai Party, Palang Pracharath Party, Future Forward Party, Democrat Party, Chartthaip­attana Party and Prachachat Party.

With Assoc Prof Dr Anusorn Unno as moderator.

Merit-making and alms-offering for 19 monks.

8-9am

Opening speech by Assoc Prof Gasinee Witoonchar­t, rector of Thammasat University. Minutes of silence to remember lives lost during the 1976 student uprising. Poetry reading by student representa­tives.

Lecture “In Remembranc­e Of The Oct 6, 1976 Event” by Surapong Suebwongle­e, former student leader during the event.

9.30-10am

Jarupong Thongsin for Democracy award presentati­on ceremony.
