Thai-Mex art collab at BACC

-

A collection of 60 prints by Mexican and Thai artists will be hung along the Curved Wall on the 3rd and 4th floors of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Pathumwan intersection, for six days starting on Oct 15, with an opening reception scheduled at 6pm. It will wrap up on Oct 20.

The works were created by 30 Thai artists and 30 Mexican artists who took part in the first “Mexican-Thai Printmaking Exchange 2019” programme that started a public call for artists between April and August this year and received 268 proposals from 147 artists from both countries.

A bi-national curator team, headed by Piyatat Hemmatat, a Thai artist and founder of PhotoBangkok, and Francisco Limón, a Mexican artist, gallerist and founder of La Máquina Workshop, selected the best artworks.

Despite no limit to the techniques used, the selected works on show interact in a spontaneous way and offer a window to a very cross-cutting, diverse and meaningful dialogue between Mexican and Thai artists.

Also displayed will be 25 additional prints from La Máquina Workshop and Gallery.

They will add meaningful expressions from artists based in Oaxaca, a vibrant artistic city in Mexico. A second exhibition in Bangkok will take place at the Chulalongkorn University Museum from Nov 4-28. The collective exhibition will then tour different art spaces in both Thailand and Mexico until next year.
