A giant life-size aluminium Tyrannosaurus and its moon surface landscape setting will take over the outdoor yard in front of Central Embassy for one month starting on Wednesday.

The 11m-long by 3.74m-tall sculpture is the largest scale ever created by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. It draws on his renowned sense of realistic expression technique and builds on his series of paintings having been exploring dinosaurs since the 1990s.

For this occasion, he painted a T-Rex specifically for this project and transformed it into a life-size sculpture made from aluminium.

The installation is paired with a spectacular moon surface created by flower artist and botanical sculptor Azuma Makoto, to present the otherworldly merging of terrain and outer space in one dimension.

Five smaller T.rex sculptures in different stunning landscapes — jungle, desert, glacier, moss and lake — will be exhibited at the indoor atrium on the ground floor.

Hailed as godfather of realistic expression through his use of airbrush technique, Sorayama’s signature body of work is the organic-robot series, “Sexy Robot”, which was part of his collaboration with Dior Men for its 2019 pre-fall collection in Tokyo and gained him recognition worldwide.

Makoto, founder of AMKK experimental botanical research institute, is known for finding intangible and exhaustive elements, namely, sensuous factors such as music in flowers and plants and expressing them in his work to present totally new aspects of them.

This is the first time in the world that the first set of collaborative art pieces by the two Japanese artists will be displayed to take the audiences to explore beyond the universe with this unique “Space Park” installation concept that combines the worlds of outer space and nature into one.

The grand opening will be on Wednesday at 7pm, followed by a meet and greet session with the artists at Siwilai Store on the 5th floor at 8pm. Sorayama will give an exclusive art talk at the Open House, 6th floor, on Thursday at 5pm. There is no admission fee but seats are limited.

Limited edition merchandise by Sorayama and AMKK such as paintings, prints, T-shirts, caps and tote bags will be available at Siwilai Store while AMKK’s pop-up flower shop will be selling beautiful floral creations.

The “Sorayama Space Park By AMKK @ Central Embassy” exhibition will wrap up on Nov 17.
