The Royal Thai Armed Forces (RTAF) will hold a grand military parade and oath of allegiance to His Majesty the King in Saraburi on Saturday, the first since the monarch’s coronation in May last year.

Their Majesties the King and Queen, accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, will attend the ceremony at the army’s cavalry centre in Saraburi’s Muang district, the RTAF said.

The first grand parade in the reign of His Majesty the King comes 23 years after a similar march-past was held to mark His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great’s 50 years on the throne, at the Royal Plaza in Bangkok on June 23, 1996.

Saturday’s parade will feature battalions of troops, military vehicles and cavalry, as well as officers from the Royal Thai Police.

A flypast involving 37 aircraft from the air force, including AU-23 jets, will release trails of smoke in the three colours of the national flag — red, white and blue.

Among the military hardware taking part will be BTR-3E1 armoured vehicles, M60A3 tanks, VT-4 battle tanks, and assault amphibious vehicles, according to the RTAF.

The public are invited to gather along the route to the ceremonial ground to greet Their Majesties.
