When in need of some pampering, many of us will head to the spa. Some are hoping to relieve tension and stress. Some are simply looking for “me-time” serenity. The ideal, of course, would be to have all of the above and for the benefits to be immediately visible.

Over the past decade, visiting the spa has been a monthly event for me. My choice of treatment depends upon the strains of the day, but I mostly focus on facials.

Now that I am approaching 50, a good old relaxing facial massage sometimes doesn’t suffice. My skin (sagging, wrinkled, dry, overtired, you name it) is in need of treatment that’s more advanced and longer lasting. For a long time, I haven’t been entirely satisfied with the results I’ve been getting from the various skin treatments I tried. Then came Margy’s.

Developed by acclaimed beauty expert Margie Lombard, Margy’s is a luxury facial skincare line from Monte Carlo.

Lombard, now in her 70s, opened her first spa in Monaco in 1988. A pioneer in biomimetic and anti-ageing cosmetics, she has developed a range of treatments and her own award-winning products line.

Made in Switzerland using revolutionary Swiss-made ingredients, Margy’s is highly regarded in Europe for its quality and the efficiency of its treatments.

Now, for the first time in Thailand, Margy’s is available at the Peninsula Spa of the Peninsula Bangkok Hotel.

There you can enjoy Margy’s signature anti-ageing facial treatments: illuminating facial (7,600 baht), firming and collagen-boosting facial (10,500 baht), super-lifting haute couture facial (13,350 baht) and age-reversal facial (17,900 baht).

The 120-minute age-reversal treatment, which I had, is a comprehensive unification session of ultimate care. Its three courses feature a rejuvenating facial massage and application of active collagen firming masks to provide immediate visible results after a single session.

To ensure guest satisfaction, the therapists here are all trained by Margy’s specialists from Monaco.

My session started off with water-free facial cleansing, using a mild lotion. According to Lombard, tap water is a no-no for your face because it contains contaminants that can irritate the skin and deplete the its natural oils and moisture.

“You wash your body, but clean the face,” she said.

After my face had been cleaned (and was feeling hydrated, plump and soft), an hour of seamless facial massage courses followed. These involved, in particular order, collagen boosting lotion, firming cream, gelatinous masks, stem-cell illuminating serum and moisturisers.

The courses are designed to smooth fine lines, boost collagen and restore elasticity while lightening skin complexion and enhancing skin radiance. The products contain essential oils, collagen, algae nutrients and hyaluronic acid, which are absorbed quickly into the skin.

The treatment was very relaxing and when it was finished, I felt my tensions had been lifted and that my skin was utterly nourished. My face clearly displayed a healthy glow and suppleness that had long been absent.
