Charter panel set to ask for extension

POLITICS: Palang Pracharath’s listed MP Paiboon Nititawan will ask House Speaker Chuan Leekpai to extend the deadline for the House committee studying charter amendments by another 30 days or more due to the Covid-19 outbreak.

Mr Paiboon, who serves as vice-chairman of the committee, said the panel has had to cancel its meetings to avoid transmissions, which has affected its schedule. Under the current timeframe, the panel has until April 16.

He said the committee requires another 30 days or until the parliament reconvenes on May 22, noting that he will raise the issue with panel chairman Pirapan Salirathavibhaga next week.

Mr Paiboon added that the committee has postponed forums to gather public opinions, though he added that the public can submit their suggestions via online platforms.
