Govt allays fears after horse deaths
WILDLIFE: The Department of Livestock Development (DLD) yesterday came out to allay public fears after 11 horses were found dead at stables in Nakhon Ratchasima’s Pak Chong district.
Sorawit Thanito, directorgeneral of the DLD said the deaths were caused by African Horse Sickness, which is not transmittable to humans and bears no relation to the Covid-19 pandemic.
DLD officials had been called after the stable owner reported that 11 of his horses had developed fevers in excess of 39C, lost their appetite, and had been struggling to breathe before dying over a number of days.
