Take visas online

I read that the powers-that-be in immigration have requested that foreigners requiring to complete their 90-day reporting should do so via their online portal.

There is still no mention of a portal for foreigners requiring to renew their visa extensions.

My annual visit to Chang Watthana immigration division 1 is not something I look forward to. Not because of the hoops one has to go through to satisfy the demands of a visa extension, but more because of the depressingly long time it takes for the process to be completed.

It has taken the coronavirus to highlight a management problem that has been with the immigration department for a long time.

Let me give a solution to the stressful waiting game. There is already another online portal for the re-entry visa. This portal requires that preliminary information be submitted online and an appointment made on a convenient day at a convenient time.

My experience with this procedure left me with nothing but praise. Not only was it speedy and less stressful with no crowds, but my treatment by the officer processing my request was courteous and less demanding.

My question is: why can’t this same procedure be applied to visa extensions and thereby cut down on the waiting time and the crowds?
