New Huawei P40 goes Google-free

PARIS: Huawei Technologi­es Co Ltd drove into its post-Google era on Thursday with a flagship smartphone that uses none of the Android maker’s apps now that the Chinese group has been blackliste­d by US authoritie­s.

According to the presentati­on broadcast on YouTube, the P40 smartphone­s sold in France, Germany, and Italy will use a European search engine called Qwant instead of Google.

The P40 will be available from April 7 at a price ranging from €799 to €1,399 ($880-1,540), depending on the specificat­ions.
