China reports 45 new infections

BEIJING: China yesterday reported 45 new cases of coronavirus infection, all but one being people arriving in the mainland from abroad.

The National Health Commission said the new infections, detected in the 24 hours to the end of Saturday brought the tally for the mainland to 81,439.

The country’s total number of imported cases now stands at 693, according to the commission. The only case of local transmission was recorded in Henan Province, which borders hardest-hit Hubei Province, it said. No new confirmed cases were found in Hubei.

It also reported five more deaths, all in Hubei Province, taking the total number of fatalities on the mainland to 3,300.
