Fishing banned in Andaman Sea
FISHERIES: The Andaman Sea will be off limits to fishermen from four provinces from April 1 till June 30 to allow fish stocks to be replenished, according to the Department of Fisheries.
Meesak Pakdeekong, the department’s director-general, said yesterday that fishing will be banned in the waters off Phuket, Phangnga, Krabi and Trang as fish stocks have dwindled in many areas due to overfishing. The fishing ban covers more than 5,000 square kilometres from Laem Panwa in Phuket to Laem Yong Star in Trang.
