TIME FOR BLUE JEANS
Stripes can make a statement, and Oris has collaborated with Momotaro Jeans to make an edgy denim strap for its iconic diver’s watch.
Launched in 2006, Momotaro Jeans is one of the brands under Japan Blue based in Okayama, on the southwestern part of Honshu.
“Oris is the perfect match for us, because like Momotaro Jeans, it’s independent, it makes bold and brave choices, and it’s obsessive about quality. This isn’t just a product collaboration — our spirit, culture and craftsmanship really synchronised,” said Katsu Manabe, chief operating officer of Japan Blue.
Named after a Japanese folklore hero, the Momotaro Jeans brand is notable for denim made from the finest long-staple cotton and deep indigo rope dye, which achieves the best possible fade.
“We also use old vintage shuttle looms to create a handmade feel in our textiles; and details are carefully handsewn,” he said. “Japanese craftsmanship has a spirit of hospitality. By that I mean every detail is carefully considered for end users. That’s what genuine quality means to us.”
The Oris x Momotaro special edition features a strap made from the Japanese brand’s hard-wearing indigo denim, fashioned with the signature two white lines called “battle stripes”.
Launched in 1965, the Oris Divers Sixty-Five has been reworked in a 40mm stainless steel case with a bezel with a bronze edge while the gradient green dial features luminous material on hands and indices with bronze colouring. The special edition is supplied in a denim travel pouch.
