Famed Bach masterpieces come to Neilson Hays Library
Neilson Hays Library is hosting the “Bach At The Library” concert, which offers a rare chance to enjoy a live performance of two solo compositions written for violin and cello by Johann Sebastian Bach, on Thursday from 7.30pm to 9pm.
The interactive lecture recital will be presented by violinist Leo Phillips and Noa Chorin, principal cellist of the Israel Chamber Orchestra. They will introduce Bach’s great masterpieces Partita No.2 In D Minor For Solo Violin BWV 1004 and Suite No.2 In D Minor For Solo Violoncello BWV 1008, respectively, before performing them in their entirety.
Born in London, Leo Phillips studied the violin both in Europe and in the US. He has appeared as violin soloist with many orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, L’Orchestre de Chambre de Genève and the National Symphony Orchestra of South Africa.
A dedicated chamber musician, Phillips was a founder member of the Vellinger String
Quartet and leader of the internationally regarded Nash Ensemble of London with whom he toured extensively and has made many critically acclaimed recordings and broadcasts.
Chorin started playing the cello at the age of nine. She studied for a bachelor’s in music at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv University and graduated with excellence. As an active chamber music performer, she has participated in many music festivals in Israel and Europe.
After the performance, both performers will be ready to answer questions about the music, the instruments and on their lives as musicians.
Tickets cost 600 baht (500 baht for members and 100 baht for students) and can be purchased online and at the library. Seats are limited to respect social distancing rules. Tickets will not be available at the door.
