Aiyawatt wants UCL spot as birthday gift from Foxes

- TOR CHITTINAND

Leicester City need to beat Manchester United this Sunday to seal a Champions League spot and their Thai CEO Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha hopes his team will make it to the elite European club event next season.

Aiyawatt unveiled the Foxes’ new jersey for the next season, which will bear ‘Thailand Smiles With You’ catchphrase on the chest, at King Power head office in Bangkok yesterday.

Manchester United and Chelsea both have one point advantage on Leicester, who are in fifth place with 62 points.

A win at home on Sunday will guarantee the ticket to the Uefa Champions League for Leicester, but in case of a draw their fate would hang on the result of the game between Chelsea and Wolverhampton.

However, a loss to the Red Devils would end their bid for the next season’s Champions League.

Aiyawatt said he was expecting a tough game on Sunday.

“Some of our players are nursing injuries and Manchester United are performing very well at the moment,” he added.

“Even if we fail to reach the Champions League, I would still be content as every player has done his best.

“A loss would end our hopes of making it to the Champions League but we will still be playing in Europe by qualifying for the Uefa Europa League.

“I am hoping it will be a good day for both me and the team — it’s my birthday on Sunday and I can’t think of a better gift than a place in the Champions League.”

Aiyawatt added that Leicester City kept an eye on the Thai players and would sign one for sure if they could spot one who fitted the bill.
