MOBILE MUSEUM TEACHES TOURISTS
Not far from the white beaches, Museum Phuket Muse Mobile is roaming the town and catching the eye of vacationers and young local folks with interesting mixed-media exhibitions and fun activities that are on view from now until Sept 20.
It’s a collaboration of Museum Siam and Phuket Municipality to expand its reach to communities, schools and other tourist attractions so that people can learn about Phuket’s history under the concept of “Play + Learn = Plearn”. The word plearn means enjoy in Thai.
“The Covid-19 pandemic is affecting the whole world, but learning can’t stop. The Museum Phuket is a small learning centre, so we’ve learned to adapt ourselves to this situation. We try to build connections with group targets via online platforms and came up with the Museum Phuket Muse Mobile to be a new educational option that can meet the lifestyle of people of all ages,” said Ramese Promyen, director-general of the National Discovery Museum Institute.
Exhibitions from Museum Phuket have been transformed into knowledge trucks to transport visitors back in time to the glorious days of Phuket island, known as The Pearl of The Andaman.
A six-wheeled truck called Phuketnagara is boasting a new exhibition on the origin and development of Phuket in four periods. Visitors can learn about how the jungle was replaced with tin mines before becoming a leading trading port in
Asia and the world’s top holiday destination. Urban families can also enjoy a fun workshop on how to sift tin and copper in a small pond.
A four-wheeled truck, Peranakannitat, illustrates the Chinese origin of Peranakan ancestors with their unique culture and lifestyle. There are several games for young visitors to learn more about beautiful Sino-Portuguese architecture, elaborate Peranakan apparel and unique cuisine that is a mixture of Chinese, Malaysian and Indonesian recipes.
