Nishino gets enshrined into Japan Hall of Fame
Thailand coach Akira Nishino has been inducted into the Japan Football Hall of Fame.
The Japanese received a commemorative relief in his native country last weekend, the Japan Football Association said on its website www.jfa.com.
“It is a great honour to be inducted into the Hall of Fame,” said Nishino.
“I used to think that being inducted into the Hall of Fame was like being locked away somewhere, but now I feel that I am right in the midst of the football world. I will continue to devote myself to football and give back a worthy contribution to the football world as a Hall of Fame inductee.
“With the cooperation of everyone, I will work in Thailand and would like to contribute to the development of football not only in Japan but also in Asia and around the world.”
Nishino, 65, steered his country to the last-16 round at the 2018 World Cup before losing 3-2 to Belgium.
He began his reign in Thailand in 2019.
MUANG THONG V DANG ROW
Thai League 1 side Muang Thong United have hit back at Andrey Grushin, agent of their goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, who claims his client has terminated the contract with the Kirins because they have not paid him salary for two months.
Muang Thong director Ronnarit Suewaja said in a statement yesterday that the club had never failed to pay players their wages.
He said the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) allowed Thai league clubs to cut their players’ wages by 30-50 percent during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Instead, Muang Thong have only “suspended” 30 percent of their players’ wages and would pay them back the sums this month, he said.
He called on Dang, who has been absent from training for some time, and Grushin to talk to the club about his future.
Ronnarit also threatened to bring the case to the FAT and Fifa.
