Franco-Thai animation film fest kicks off today

The “Franco-Thai Animation Film Festival” kicks off today with over 10 movies to be screened in Bangkok and Chiang Mai until March 16.

Presented by the Embassy of France in collaborat­ion with Alliance Francaise and the Thai Animation and Computer Graphics Associatio­n (Tacga), the festival will delight cinephiles with a selection of 10 animation movies ranging from romance, comedy and adventure.

The festival will feature the premiere of Asterix: The Secret Of The Magic Potion directed by Alexandre Astier and Louis Clichy; The Bears’ Famous Invasion by Lorenzo Mattotti; Astro Kid by Eric Tosti; The Prince’s Voyage by Jean-François Laguionie; and Zombilleni­um by Arthur de Pins and Alexis Ducord.

The programme also includes Dilili In Paris by Michel Ocelot; The Swallows Of Kabul by Zabou Breitman and

Eléa Gobbé-Mévellec;

Louise By The Shore by Jean-François Laguionie;

The Little Prince by Mark Osborne; and The Red Turtle by Michael Dudok de Wit.

The films will be screened at SF World Cinema at CentralWor­ld in Bangkok from today to Sunday and at SFX Cinema Maya in Chiang Mai on March 13-14. Tickets cost 160 baht (Bangkok) and 120 baht (Chiang Mai). Visit sfcinemaci­ty.com.

A few more animations, as well as the Best of Annecy clips from the renowned Annecy Internatio­nal Animation Film Festival, will be screened at Alliance Francaise Chiang Mai from Friday to Sunday and at Alliance Francaise Bangkok from March 13-16 during which viewers are invited to join discussion­s with animation film producers, composers, screenwrit­ers and experts from the film industry.

With the support by TK Park, the festival will also feature online screenings of both Thai and French short films directed by pros and students, from Saturday to March 13, free of charge. Registrati­ons are required via bit.ly/3q6KyCh. Visit tkpark.or.th.
