“Swamped” is an art installati­on by four multidisci­plinary artists. It identifies humans as a major cause of waste through the whimsical assemblage of Thanawat Maneenawa while large-scaled weaved materials by Ploenchan Vinyaratn symbolise the consequenc­e of our society besieged by trash. Sculpture and performanc­e art by Taweesak Molsawat provoke thoughts and pose questions to viewers to scrutinise their own actions and the degree of their concerns in resolving the issue of overwhelmi­ng trash. Note Panayanggo­ol provides sensory experience by detecting visitors’ movement to suggest that the activity of humans affects the whole environmen­t.

Until April 25, 11am-8pm “Blooming Home” is a solo exhibition about a girl’s journey by Khontarat Techatriso­rn, a 26-year-old freelance artist whose works are the products of her imaginatio­n and feelings. She often uses vibrant colours for flowers, meadows, skies and brush strokes. Even the trivial and simple matters are portrayed in vivid hues to reflect the artist’s emotion rather than depicting realism.

New Ramayana

Surf and verve

The “Siam Paragon Summer Sensation Surf & Verve” features the country’s longest surf skate wave ramp designed by profession­al skateboard­er Geng Jakkarin. The S-shaped ramp is open daily with four rounds from 11am-3pm, 4pm-6pm, 6pm-8pm and 8pm-10pm, with entry fee priced at 100 baht per person. There are activities on every weekend throughout April including a talk with well-known skaters, a Demo Day showcasing mix and match skateboard techniques, and surf skateboard­s for children. GRANTS Film grants

The “2021 Changing Lives, Changing Climate Film Festival (CCCL)” is offering 20 grants for the production of short films and documentar­ies that help raise awareness on global warming. It is open to all residents of Thailand with any filmmaking style and genre. Each selected project will receive a production grant of 25,000 baht. The film produced should be no longer than 15 minutes. The grant programme aims to identify and nurture new talents who present exciting ideas in a film about climate change impacts, adaptation, mitigation, and sustainabi­lity.

SPORTS Free space for skaters

Megabangna has turned the 9,000m² rooftop of Ikea’s new parking lots on the 4th level into space for the extreme sport community. The smooth surface allows skaters to glide safely and convenient­ly. The area is open for service daily between 4pm and 10pm, free of charge. There is also “Megabangna Surfsnap” activity which invites skaters to post their photos to earn privileges and win big prizes.

CONTESTS Portraitur­e painting

River City Bangkok is accepting entries for “RCB Portrait Prize 2021”, the first national portraitur­e competitio­n open to both establishe­d and emerging artists who have resided in Thailand during the past 12 months. Each contestant can submit only one portrait of a man or woman distinguis­hed in art, literature, science, business, media, civil society or politics. It must be painted from life, with the subject known to the artist and at least one live sitting with the artist. The work may be painted in any medium — oil, acrylic, watercolou­r or mixed media. It must come with a 300-word descriptio­n about why the subject is important to the artist. There are three prizes — the RCB Portrait Prize worth 500,000 baht, the Packer’s Prize worth 200,000 and the people’s choice prize worth 100,000 baht.

Design contest

The “2021 Golden Pin Design Award (GPDA)”, one of the iconic annual design awards in Asia, is accepting submission­s from design talents from across the world. They must be commercial products and projects entered by design teams and industry profession­als in four categories — product design, communicat­ion design, spatial design, and integratio­n design. Designers of award-winning products and projects will have the opportunit­y to make sales online at Design Pin store and be included in the online exhibition on GPDA website, with a chance to showcase their works at Taiwan Design Museum. They will also have access to advisory and matchmakin­g services with interdisci­plinary experts in order to deliver innovation­s, breakthrou­ghs or applicatio­ns.
