Korean content worth checking out amid period of staying at home and self-isolation
Korean content is in the spotlight again after Minari was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. So, during another stay-at-home and self-isolation period, it is a good time to check out some interesting Korean content.
Night In Paradise
An assassin, Tae-goo (Uhm Taegoo), kills gang members and is on the run to a beautiful island, Jeju, where he meets a terminally-ill woman, Jae-yeon (Jeon Yeo-been). After spending time together, the two feel connected. However, this is not a romantic movie. Night In Paradise is a bloody and brutal action movie with a plot twist.

Kim’s Convenience
This Canadian television sitcom is about a Korean family who are immigrants in Canada. Kim Sang-il (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) and Kim Yong-mi (Jean Yoon) run a convenience store together and they expect their daughter, Janet Kim (Andrea Bang) to take over the store, but she becomes an art student. Their son, Jung Kim (Simu Liu), also has a conflict with the father and leaves home to live on his own. This sitcom is hilarious and reflects the lives of the Korean community in Canada.

An Old Lady
Hyo-jung (Ye Soo-jung) is a 69-year-old woman who is sent to hospital for treatment but there she is sexually assaulted by 29-yearold nurse assistant Joong-ho (Kim Joon-kyung). When Hyo-jung decides to report the incident to the police, they are sceptical about her story, especially after Joong-ho claims that the intercourse was consensual. When the justice system fails her, Hyo-jung comes up with her own plan. This dramatic movie exposes how society mistreats elders.
