AIS looks ahead to Thailand’s 5G future

-

Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thailand’s largest mobile operator by subscriber base, vows to continue revolutionising Thailand through its 5G technology as it celebrates 31 years of quality service.

Somchai Lertsutiwong, chief executive of AIS, said the network’s 5G technology was ranked the fastest in Thailand.

The service meets international standards, opening up new opportunities for individuals and businesses, he said.

“We have unlocked access to digital platforms with 5G technology, yielding the same efficiency as any leading industrialised nation,” said Mr Somchai.

“It is a source of great pride for AIS to give the country a reputation as a technology leader in the rankings of leading tech agencies.”

The company projects Thailand’s 5G market will grow to US$1.2 billion by 2025.

He said the three core markets with growth potential are: home internet through fixed wireless access devices; mobile internet; and business-to-business across sectors, especially in manufacturing, retail and logistics.

“The hard work of AIS teams over the last year in collaboration with a range of partners in industry, manufacturing, finance, retail, healthcare and education among others has generated a transformation, which both directly and indirectly powers the nation’s progress,” said Mr Somchai.

The company wants to use 5G to help the country navigate the pandemic and set up a digital infrastructure for the post-Covid world.

“More than 500 billion baht has been invested in rolling out digital infrastructure and another 200 billion on acquiring spectrum licences,” he said.

“We have been turning out digital-savvy personnel, both directly at AIS and our working partners.”
