The SET50 Index closed last week at 964.99 points, a decrease of 16.74 points, or 1.7% from the previous week. The most traded SET50 Futures contract S50Z21 (expired in September 2021) was settled at 960.10 points, a decrease of 21 points, or 2.14%.

Wall Street endured a volatile week, with shares plunging amid inflation fears and budget wrangling in Washington, before a rally on Friday. Investors responded to positive economic news and reports about a promising new oral treatment for Covid-19 from Merck to send the Dow up 482 points (1.4%) on the day to finish the week at 34,326.46, a decrease of 1.3% from 34,798.00 the week before.

The SET drifted lower, briefly falling below 1,600 points, on selling by investors doing window-dressing at the end of the third quarter, with few other positive catalysts. The index fell 0.51 points on Friday to end the week at 1,605.17, a decrease of 1.6% from 1,631.15 the previous week.

On the TFEX, daily average trading volume was 1,008,272 contracts, an increase of 301,768 contracts, or 42.7% from the previous week. The most actively traded product was Single Stock Futures with 2,940,110 contracts, or 588,022 per day. Total open interest was 3,549,079 contracts, a decrease of 114,415 or 3.12%.
