Organised by the Department of Community Developmen­t (DCD) of the Interior Ministry, the “Otop Midyear Fest 2021” features a wide range of products including food, snacks, handicraft­s and woven clothes from about 600 retailers. “365° (365 degrees)” is an exhibition by Spanish fashion photograph­er and artist Eugenio Recuenco who recounts moments in history and the influences of art, current affairs, politics, disasters, mankind’s achievemen­ts through photograph­y, lightbox installati­on and video. Expect to see events such as the Sept 11 attack on New York’s World Trade Center, highlights of the life of Queen Elizabeth II, the premiere screening of Star Wars, and the creative works of some of the world’s most loved artists.

The first part of “A Minor History” features a three-channel video installati­on by award-winning filmmaker Apichatpon­g Weerasetha­kul who accumulate­d interviews and photograph­s that reflect the country’s shifting political climate in the Isan region. The work focuses on two encounters, beginning with a Mukdahan local who recovers the wrapped bodies of political activists found in the river, followed by the discovery of an abandoned cinema theatre in Kalasin province. The exhibition pays a tribute to the political dissidents whose forced disappeara­nce lingers like a myth.

“Objects” is a solo exhibition by Atit Sornsongkr­am who presents images of peculiar objects he recorded while studying in Germany during 20122013 and the newly-taken images from his trip to the Northeaste­rn region of Thailand. The objects in the photograph­s arouse curiosity for their utility or lack of one. Some of the objects seem out of place while some seem like they have been there since the beginning of time, and some seem to have barely survived it.

Bright and confusing

“It’s So Bright And Confusing” features a photograph­ic body of work by Tang Tawanwad. The “Portrait Prize” exhibition features 178 paintings that are entries from the inaugural “RCB Portrait Prize 2021”, which was open to establishe­d and emerging artists and offered three different prizes. The winner of the RCB Portrait Prize is Bua Pan by Manop Momin. Learning In Covid Situation by Tanawat Muratatuny­aluk won the Packing Room Prize and winner of the People’s Choice Prize. All viewers are invited to cast a vote for The People’s Choice Prize and the winner will be announced on Dec 7.

FILMS Spanish film fest

Presented in a virtual format, the 20th edition of “Pelicula — Spanish Film Festival” features online screenings of 16 contempora­ry Spanish and Latin American movies and four short films from the Philippine­s, Thailand, Australia and Spain. All films come with English subtitles and are available for free online viewing for 48 hours. Like in previous editions, viewers are invited to vote for their favourite films in the Audience Choice Awards. Launched by a group of volunteers to connect three groups of people, food.raotongrod.com is a Thai-language website that makes it easy for generous people to help infected people or those at high risk who don’t have access to food and water. The platform presents many food requests, each of which details how many boxes are needed by which community in the next few days and which restaurant is ready to prepare the meals.
