4 nabbed for drug traffickin­g

CHIANG MAI: Four people were arrested in Mae Taeng district for allegedly traffickin­g 100,000 speed pills and 2kg of crystal methamphet­amine.

Pol Lt Gen Piya Tawichai, the commission­er of Provincial Police Region 5, said yesterday the arrests followed a tip-off about a drug deal.

Police followed a suspected drug dealer from his home to a drug pick-up venue and a subsequent search of the suspect’s car found the pills and the crystal meth.

The four suspects were identified as Kanthawut Ruangthip, Yuchai Jamee, Jalor Jakhu and Pitaksirun­g Japae.

According to police, the four are members of a drug ring led by Athiwat Srima who has an outstandin­g arrest warrant and is believed to be hiding in a neighbouri­ng country.
