Champions Pathum edge Kirins to end losing streak

- TOR CHITTINAND

Thai League 1 champions BG Pathum United stopped the rot yesterday when they beat SCG Muang Thong United 2-1.

First-half goals from Jakkapan Praisuwan and Teerasil Dangda gave the Rabbits a 2-0 lead and Purachet Thodsanit cut the deficit with six minutes to go.

The win put Pathum’s defence of the title back on track as they moved up to sixth and are now six points behind leaders Buriram United with a game in hand.

Hosts Pathum, who had suffered two successive defeats, welcomed the return of defender Andres Tunez after a long injury lay-off.

However, the Rabbits were still without defender Victor Cardozo and striker Diogo Luis Santo, who are recovering from injuries.

The hosts went on the attack from the start with former Muang Thong stars Teerasil and Sarach Yooyen squandering a couple of good chances.

Pathum deservedly went ahead when Jakkapan’s header beat goalkeeper Somporn Yos after 27 minutes.

Teerasil then scored a beautiful goal after dribbling past two defenders just before half-time.
