England-based Thanawat, Davis in national U23 team
England-based Thanawat Suengchitthawon and Benjamin Davis have been named in Thailand’s 27-man squad for the AFC U23 Championship qualifying round in Mongolia later this month.
Thanawat is a player at Premier League side Leicester City while Benjamin Davis plays for League One club Oxford United.
Other members in the team announced by the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) yesterday include players from Thai League 1, Thai League 2 and Thai League 3.
The squad, which leaves for Mongolia on Monday, will be trimmed to 23 before Thailand’s first game against the hosts on Oct 25.
Thailand will then meet Laos on Oct 28 and Malaysia on Oct 31.
Thailand coach Worrawoot Srimaka said the squad is a mixture of experienced and young players.
“They all have the potential to show Thai fans that they are worthy of being national players,” he said.
“Our goal is to reach the finals.” The AFC U23 Championship will be held in Uzbekistan in January.
