Police arrest teacher for sexual abuse
The Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division (ATPD) yesterday arrested a music teacher at an all-boys school in Bang Khae district for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old boy for three years.
The arrest was the result of cooperation between the Children, Women and Families Protection Centre of the Royal Thai Police and ATPD.
Assistant police chief Pol Lt Gen Torsak Sukvimol told media yesterday that the accused teacher assaulted the victim by inappropriately hugging and touching the boy’s private parts.
The teacher would follow the victim into the washroom, IT and music rooms to carry out his assaults, he said, adding five other victims have also come forward to the police.
The accused denied assaulting the victim but admitted to sexually harassing him, Pol Lt Gen Torsak said.
Police were also examining his mobile phone to see if he kept any video evidence of the alleged sex crimes.
The victim was sent to a hospital for a forensic examination yesterday morning, the result of which will be issued soon, Pol Lt Gen Torsak said, adding the police are in talks with the Education Ministry to suspend the suspect from working as a teacher.
A detailed examination going back three years will be carried out, and police have so far questioned three out of the five victims.
Pol Lt Gen Torsak urged parents and teachers to remember that boys can also be victims of sex crimes.
Children may hesitate to tell their parents due to embarrassment or out of fear, he said.
