MASERATI BENDS IT LIKE BECKHAM

- JEDD SRESHTHAPUTRA

Miami was the setting for the creation of the Maserati MC20 Fuoriserie Edition for David Beckham. With the assistance of the Maserati Centro Stile, David Beckham, the brand ambassador of the Italian automobile manufacturer, transforms into a designer.

The MC20 is the result of this collaboration, and it embodies the enthusiasm of the British champion for his adopted hometown in the form of a customised automobile that symbolises the principles of performance and sportiness. The MC20.

This project is a part of Maserati’s Fuoriserie customisation programme, which allows consumers to design their own bespoke Maserati by choosing from a variety of different designs. Designed to be a symbol of real luxury in the third millennium, the automobile displays to the world its distinctive nature and individual character. Maserati Fuoriserie is a blank canvas, and the House of the Trident has a plethora of tools with which to express yourself creatively. The remainder is up to the individual client’s taste and inspiration, providing them the ability to create their own trends and show their own identity via their clothing.

Beckham and the Maserati Centro Stile designers worked together to produce an exclusive MC20 Fuoriserie Edition just for David Beckham. A carbon fibre monocoque made in Italy and propelled by a proprietary V6 petrol engine derived from Formula 1 technology are the hallmarks of this vehicle.

There is a chromatic dichotomy between black and pink in this story, which begins in Miami, where Beckham’s US soccer team is based. Colours include black and pink for the team and contrasting glossy and matte finishes for the clothing.

The black Trident emblems on the grille and C-pillar contrast with the glossy black paint on the bodywork, which takes influence from this. The MC20 emblem on the door is pastel pink, as are the Brembo brake calipers and the Maserati inscription on the rear.

Leather and Alcantara make up the inside of the car, and its black with pink stitching. The backrests are made of

Alcantara and are laser engraved in a tone-on-tone pattern. The headrest is made of three-dimensional pink embroidery.

Finally, in the centre tunnel between the two seats, a personalised nameplate with a glossy-matte effect: at the top, next to the Trident, the Maserati Fuoriserie lettering is pastel pink, at the bottom the italics “For David” appears with an aluminium effect.

Klaus Busse, head of Maserati Design, commented: “As car designers, our mission is to offer a holistic experience. This value guides our Brand’s stylistic research, making each Maserati uniquely recognisable. Our customisation programme is another example of our brand’s goal to create singular experiences for our customers. Maserati Fuoriserie is a blank canvas, on which Maserati clients can write their own stories and unleash their creativity, making their dreams come true. Designing this special edition MC20 with David, as with all our Fuoriserie projects, is also an ode to the brand’s past, taking us back to a time when every car was hand-built to the client’s requests, giving life to a one-off, a true ‘fuoriserie’.

David Beckham said: “I have always been a car enthusiast, so to be part of designing and creating my MC20 through the Fuoriserie customisation programme has been an amazing experience. Cars are about individual taste whether it’s the model, colour or small personal details on the inside. It has been incredible to collaborate with the Maserati team and designers to create this one-off car that is inspired by my second home, Miami, and my football club there. It is a joy to be behind the wheel.”

Miami is a land of magical nights and delicate sunsets. The MC20 Fuoriserie Edition for David Beckham seems designed to cross this subtle line between day and night.

Prices for the Maserati MC20 Fuoriserie Edition start at 21,500,000 baht.
