Thai tech skills likely in high demand this year
Demand for tech-related positions will increase in 2022, leading to a shortfall of candidates as digital transformation impacts all industries, according to a survey by recruitment specialist Robert Walters Thailand.
Digital transformation will not only create roles in the tech industry, but also across other industries that require these skills and talents to run companies, said Punyanuch Sirisawadwattana, country manager at Robert Walters Thailand.
The global recruitment specialist group with regional offices in Southeast Asia released the 23rd edition of its “Salary Survey”. Offering updates on trends in salaries and recruitment, the survey was conducted in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The annual report includes insights about hiring markets in Thailand during 2021 and what to expect in 2022.
Ms Punyanuch said the shortage of candidates would not make Thailand less attractive to companies planning to move to the country because it is happening throughout the region.
“Organisations will find the best way to attract the best talent using benefits and their culture,” she said.
Ms Punyanuch said the labour shortage is unlikely to affect attempts by Thai businesses to carry out a digital transformation as firms have grasped this is the future of work.
The survey found digital transformation should create higher demand for many roles this year. For example, in the financial services industry recruitment relating to 5G rollouts, data analytics and blockchain will rise, she said.
Job seekers offering tech skills can expect to be in high demand and receive competitive offers as employers will need to adjust remuneration and benefits to secure hires with a smaller talent pool in technology, automation and analytics, said Ms Punyanuch.
In 2022 the trend in the hiring market is going to be based less on traditional working arrangements, with more remote work and greater demand for roles connected to digital advances, according to the survey.
Salary increases of between 10-30% for job seekers are expected in 2022, according to Robert Walters.
While recruitment for local talent is buoyant, positions in which remote work is possible will also attract international candidates who do not need to relocate to Thailand.
Candidate demand for flexible, hybrid working models and extensive healthcare plans will increase, found the survey.
Adaptability to fast-changing situations will be increasingly valued by employers, and they will be looking for candidates with active learning skills and a proactive approach, said Ms Punyanuch.
