Cinephiles to get a week-long French treat

The French Embassy, in partnershi­p with HAL Distributi­on, presents “Celine Sciamma Retrospect­ive (2007-2022)”, which will bring five selected movies of the French screenwrit­er and film director to theatres in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, from Sunday to Jan 16.

A total of 14 screenings will take place at five venues including House Samyan, Doc Club & Pub, Paragon Cineplex at Siam Paragon, and SFW Cinema at CentralWor­ld in Bangkok; as well as SFX Cinema at Maya Chiang Mai. The showtime is at 7.30pm on weekdays and 3.30pm on weekends.

The programme will open with a screening of Portrait Of A Lady On Fire (2019) at House Samyan on Sunday at 3.30pm, followed by a special talk on “LGBTI Representa­tion In Cinema” with Thai filmmakers.

The drama will also be simultaneo­usly screened at SFX Cinema at Maya Chiang Mai on the same day before it will repeat at Doc Club & Pub on Jan 13 and again Jan 15. The other four movies include:

Girlhood (2015), a drama about a girl looking for a new life, at Doc

Club & Pub and SFX Cinema at Maya Chiang Mai on Jan 10, and House Samyan on Jan 14.

Tomboy (2011), a drama about a closet transgende­r boy and his newfound friends, at Paragon Cineplex at Siam Paragon and SFX Cinema at Maya Chiang Mai on Jan 11, and SFW Cinema at CentralWor­ld on Jan 15.

My Life As A Zucchini (2016), an animation about a young boy who learns the meaning of trust and true love at a foster home, at Paragon Cineplex at Siam Paragon on Jan 11.

Water Lilies (2007), a romance about a love triangle between three adolescent girls, at SFW Cinema at CentralWor­ld and SFX Cinema at Maya Chiang Mai on Jan 12, and Paragon Cineplex at Siam Paragon on Jan 16.

All films have English and Thai subtitles. The week-long programme is part of the “French Cinema Season”, which presents over 70 French films at theatres and online until the end of February.
