Manhunt for security guard accused of rape

Police yesterday launched a manhunt for a security guard accused of assaulting and raping a condo resident inside her room in Bang Kae district.

The incident was reported at 1.50am when Pol Capt Thongchai Thepcharoen, deputy inspector of Phetkasem police, received a report about a rape at a condominium where the suspect was still at the scene. When six patrol police arrived to investigate, they found the distraught victim, a 36-year-old resident, who identified Montri Yaikrathong, the head of condo security, as the attacker.

The victim said she returned home late and found herself locked out of the apartment. She went down to ask Montri to help with the lock and decided to call a locksmith. After seeing off the locksmith, Montri, who appeared intoxicated, knocked on her door. When she opened it, he propelled himself into the room, restrained her with handcuffs and allegedly raped her.

He removed the handcuffs after the assault and she ran away at the first chance and called 191 for help. However, officers were refused access to the victim’s room by the condo’s security team and only allowed to see the security cameras. Two hours later police found the suspect had dumped the handcuffs in a bin on the ground floor after leaving the victim’s room.

Police checked the suspect’s house on Soi Phetkasem 47 but there was no sign of him. Montri had been convicted of raping a girl in Sa Kaeo in 2013 and released from prison in 2017, police said. He was still on the loose as of press time yesterday.
