Terry’s first hat-trick boosts Ducks’ spirits

-

ANAHEIM: Troy Terry scored a pair of goals in the opening 10 minutes and finished off his first career hat-trick in the closing seconds as the Anaheim Ducks ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL on Tuesday.

Sonny Milano added a goal and John Gibson had 28 saves for Anaheim, who won for the first time since Dec 15.

Cam Atkinson scored a goal and Carter Hart had 26 saves as Philadelphia ended a four-game West Coast road trip with a 1-2-1 record.

The Flyers were forced into pregame adjustments after forward Claude Giroux, defenceman Ivan Provorov and one staff member were placed into the league’s Covid-19 protocol earlier on Tuesday. Giroux leads Philadelphia with 29 points.

The Ducks had their own Covid issues on Monday as practice was cancelled after forwards Nicolas Deslauriers and Derek Grant, as well as a staff member, were placed into protocol.

The Ducks also have two of their top four point leaders — Ryan Getzlaf and Trevor Zegras — in the protocol.

At Chicago, Cale Makar scored the winning goal 2:38 into overtime and Erik Johnson scored twice in regulation to boost Colorado over the Blackhawks 4-3.

Alex DeBrincat scored power-play goals 40 seconds apart early in the third period to give Chicago a 3-2 lead, but the Blackhawks were unable to hold on and lost their fifth straight game. Patrick Kane and Seth Jones had two assists apiece for the Blackhawks.

Darcy Kuemper made 28 saves as the Avalanche won for the seventh time in eight games.

At Boston, David Pastrnak scored the go-ahead goal with 5:49 remaining to lead the Bruins past New Jersey 5-3.

Curtis Lazar, Oskar Steen, Trent Frederic and Brandon Carlo also scored, and Linus Ullmark made 23 saves for Boston.
