Gangs seeking ‘accountants’

SOCIAL MEDIA: The police are warning the public to be more careful when seeking employment opportunities online, after a number of job-seekers were tricked into laundering money for criminal gangs through their personal bank accounts.

Police spokesman, Pol Col Siriwat Deepo, said an increasing number of people are claiming to have been unwittingly hired to carry out bank transactions by a third party, which turned out to be criminal organisations, through social media.

Many of the victims told police that they thought they had accepted an offer for a high-paying accounting position, which allowed them to work from home as long as they have a bank account, he said.
