17-year rape case manhunt ends

CRIME: Police have arrested a former head security guard, who allegedly raped a woman at an apartment where he worked before going on the run for 17 years.

The 38-year-old suspect, identified only as Wongsakorn, was apprehende­d by Crime Suppressio­n Division police at a convenienc­e store in Bangkok’s Min Buri district. The man was wanted on a warrant issued by Thanyaburi Provincial Court on Aug 27, 2005, over a rape-related charge.

Police said Mr Wongsakorn used to work as head of security at an apartment in Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang district. He is accused of raping a woman, identified only as Ae, on May 14, 2005, while she was looking for a new room. The suspect denies the charge and was being held at Khlong Luang police station.
