Big plans for One’s tenth anniversary

-

New Year’s celebrations may be over, but One Championship chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong has dropped some fireworks for the promotion’s 10th anniversary spectacle.

Aptly called One X, the show was initially slated for late last year but got cancelled due to Covid-19.

The wait is over, as Chatri revealed during his appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour that the event will be pushing through on March 26 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

“Now we have a lot of confidence in what’s happening, so March 26, One X goes down,” Chatri said.

The world’s largest martial arts organisation will have a grand offering to celebrate its first decade, for there will be 18 fights on the card.

To ramp up the excitement, One’s leader made public three of the fights that will take place during the monumental event.

First up is the special rules super fight between mixed martial arts legend Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and One flyweight Muay Thai world champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon.

Slated for four three-minute rounds, the first and third chapters will fall under Muay Thai rules, while the second and fourth are under MMA rules.

Rodtang looks to maintain his undefeated run in One, which now stretches to 10 fights.

Meanwhile, Johnson hopes to bounce back from his setback against Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes.

Speaking of Moraes, the One flyweight world champion from Brazil will have his first title defence at One X against the sensational Yuya “Little Piranha” Wakamatsu, who has a 15-4 MMA record.

Finally, One women’s atomweight world champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee will make her return inside the circle to face One women’s atomweight World Grand Prix winner Stamp Fairtex.

Thailand’s Stamp is looking to become a three-sport world champion after claiming Muay Thai and kickboxing titles.

Chatri also said that Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki and “Super” Sage Northcutt will participate in the slugfest with their opponents yet to be determined.
